We have come a long way in television! To the point where some forget or simply ignore the time before streaming entered our lives. Like most, the television was the best babysitter. I, myself were raised on classic television and long for the days where all Lucy wanted was to be on the show. And while I certainly do not knock what I believe to be the New Golden Age of Television, I believe we need to pay tribute to the shows that started it all.

Would we have Law & Order and it’s many spinoffs without Perry Mason? Would we see funny and intelligent women on TV had it not been for Lucille Ball? Or a show like Blackish had it not been for great shows like Good Times or The Jeffersons? Every show we watch now is a tip of the cap to classic television. And while it is evident that some classic TV shows have not aged well, they still paved the road for the future. I feel lucky to have been exposed to the shows of both my parents and grandparents’ generations.

So, while I sit and enjoy streaming platforms such as HBO Max, Disney+ and Prime Video, I cannot help but think those were the days.
